Sauna lighting ideas

Good sauna lighting is soft, indirect and built for heat and moisture. Here are the layouts we use most, and which Aura lights make them work.

Sauna cabin glowing in warm amber light under the benches

1. Warm glow under the benches

Run a continuous LED strip under the front edge of each bench so light falls down onto the floor and lower wall. You see the glow, never the light source itself, which keeps the room calm and avoids glare in your eyes while you lie down.

2. Colour moods for a modern cabin

A colour (RGBW) system lets you switch between cool blue for a relaxed cool-down and warm white while bathing. Our Aura Warm and Aura Stripes cabins come with colour LED lighting and a remote, so the mood changes with one click.

3. Backlight the backrest

A strip hidden behind the backrest boards outlines the slats and makes the wall seem to float. It works especially well with striped slat walls, where the light shows through the gaps.

4. Starry spots in the steam room

In a steam room the ceiling is wet all the time, so lights must be fully sealed. The Aura LED SteamSpot is waterproof to IP68, made from acid-proof AISI 316L stainless steel and gives 3000 K warm white light. Spread several spots across the ceiling for a soft star effect, or line them along a bench.

Choosing a sauna LED strip

  • Waterproof: the Aura LED strip is IP67 and runs on safe 24 V.
  • Warm white 3000 K with CRI above 90, so wood looks natural.
  • 5 W per metre — enough for a glow, not a glare.
  • Keep the driver outside the hot room.
